WHAT IS IT?
Swap-o-rama-rama PDX combines a clothing swap and DIY workshops to transform the clothes you find into new, wearable works of art.

Reduce. Clean out your closet (be honest, you’re never going to wear THAT again)

Reuse. Express your individuality by transforming unwanted clothing into runway material.

Recreate. Learn some new tricks to funk up your wardrobe – even if you don’t know how to sew.

The basic concept is this: you bring at least two bags of unwanted clothing and a sliding-scale donation of up to $10. The resulting pile of clothes represents the core ingredient of the event—from this pile, old clothes will get a new lease on life!

Leftover clothes will be donated to the Raphael House of Portland.

WORKSHOPS
So what can you do with a pile of old clothes? The possibilities are endless. But a few places to start could be one of the workshops we've planned so far:

SkirtLift. Transform old, frumpy skirts and dresses into new, stylish ones. A literal nip & tuck for clothes!

DecorationStation. Jazz up your finds with beads, appliques, rhinestones, embroidery, lace, whatever you can find in the pile.

Iron-on-and-on. Personalize your finds with an iron-on graphic. [Maven still needed!]

Stencil & Silk Screen. Illustrate a blouse with a stenciled patterns and silk-screened images. [Maven still needed!]

Bridal Redress. Still have ugly bridesmaid dresses lurking in your closet? Make a halter top out of it, or even pillow covers.

Calling all PDX-area craft mavens! Swap PDX needs you; it's a great place to:
Strut your stuff – showcase your work to an appreciative audience.
Share the love - expand Portland’s thriving DIY community.
Be a guru – teach others and inspire creative re-use.
If you're interested in running a workshop - listed above or not - please email us at sorrpdx@yahoo.com.

WHAT TO BRING
Bring at least two bags of clothes that you don't want/can't wear anymore, plus any embellishments, like leftover beads, sequins, ribbon, feather boas, etc. Needle and thread is very welcome, and please bring your own pair of sewing scissors if you have 'em. (We'll make sure you label it with your name on it -- we get pretty attached to our scissors, too.)

Also, please bring a small contribution, up to $10, to help us cover the cost of the event.

Last, but certainly not least, don't forget your imagination!

HOW TO HELP
Volunteers needed (and get first pick of the clothes!). If you can . . .

  • sew!
  • help us find sponsorships
  • run a workshop station
  • sort clothes
  • organize supplies
  • sign-in people
  • spread the word

. . we'd be grateful for your help. Drop us an email at sorrpdx@yahoo.com.
