miss velvet cream is about freedom, communication, integrity,
commitment and experimentation. i design the neo-archaic; pieces that
embody silhouettes of the past with dreams of the future, all bridged
by the conscious present. reconstruction is a recent project for me,
translating the literal past in garments and discarded pieces from
someone else into a radically new form is my intention. i'd like to
see conscious consumption in our society. i'd like to see artisans
recognized and respected for their essential contribution to culture.
i am committed to local economies, global communities and respect for
the individual.
in this brief introduction to transformation, we're going to work
exclusively in discarded denim. participants will be introduced to a
range of recoup ideas, with a special emphasis on using as much as
possible, modernizing old styles and shades, and working with the raw,
deconstructed characteristics of worn denim that make it so
interesting. we will work on unisex items.
recommended : bring at least 3 discarded denim items from the swap pile.
together we'll cut a pattern and after the workshop we may be able to work together at the stitch lounge sewing area.
