Always looking for a constructive way to add ideas and flare to her wardrobe, Girlawhirl could not have had a better week! First, New York Fashion Week, where she got a firsthand look at what’s next, and now, a fun way to add some new life into this season’s wardrobe: a swap meet with benefits… |
|
Swap-O-Rama-Rama is Girlawhirl’s new favorite way to swap, save and create fabulous fashions out of old clothes. Always a fan of recycling, whether it’s a can or capris, Girlawhirl can’t wait to dig into the huge pile of clothing and other great stuff everyone brings.
She’s headed to Brooklyn on Sunday with a $10 donation and a bag of old clothes and accessories. Once inside Girlawhirl has access to anything she wants from what everyone else brought. But even more fun are the DIY workshops. Not only can Girlawhirl pick out great new-to-her clothes to add a little spark to her winter worn wardrobe, but at the workshops—hosted by local artists—she can learn how to deconstruct, reconstruct and transform the old clothes into something totally new.

A swapping Super Pal, who turned Girlawhirl on to the event, says her favorite part is when she removes the old designer labels and sews in her own “100% Recycled” or “Modified by Me” labels. And, in keeping with the Fashion Week feeling, there’s even a runway for strutting and showing off the revamped and revitalized duds.
A must for Girlawhirl is the “Tee Party - 108 Ways to Transform a T-Shirt” workshop. After what she saw on the runways this week, she knows it’s never been more important to have a few great T’s in her wardrobe.
And, on the other side of the country, Girlawhirl's L.A. based Super Pals are scoping out the Barneys Warehouse Sale, which started yesterday. The warehouse sales at Barneys are the stuff urban legends are made of. Designer duds spectacularly discounted. Shoes, jewelry, handbags and rack upon rack of clothing usually have fashion bargain hunters lining up at the door waiting to get in. And it's all worth it!
Once she’s done-it-herself on the East Coast, Girlawhirl is heading west to see what else she can score!
** Swap-O-Rama-Rama has been rescheduled due to snow. It will now be held at the Galapagos Art Space on Monday, February 20th (Presidents Day) from 2 to 7 p.m.
